A lot PC monitors are set too bright. Put your monitor contrast to the maximum und reduce the brightness, so you can see the differences between all greyscale blocks. The upper stripe shows dark grey and black blocks, if you only see black, your monitor is set too dark. Adjust your monitors brightness, so you can slightly see the different blocks.
